Teams typically consist of 4 leaders and another 15-20 volunteers.

Two leaders serve as construction leads. Leading up to the trip, these leaders ensure that the the team has assembled the proper tools and equipment necessary to build the home. During the house-building weekend, these two leaders share the responsibility of ensuring that the house is built properly and on-time. The construction leaders typically have quite a bit of construction experience, but also know how to step back and guide others through the build process.

The team also will have an Administrative leader. This person ensure that—leading up to the trip—all administrative tasks have been attended to. These include registration and waiver forms completion, registration fees, vehicle insurance information, organizing food teams and more. The Administrative leader is a monster at detail and organization, and knows how to get the tasks done in a timely manner.

And last (but no less important), is the cheerleader.  The cheerleader is a critical role for the person who is relationally oriented, and is all about seeing that the vision of why we're doing this doesn't get lost in the significant task of building a home. Leading up to the trip, the Cheerleader is encouraging others on the team, and at team meetings, ensures that the vision of what we're doing and why doesn't get lost. During the build weekend, the cheerleader keeps that vision fire lit, and is also ensuring that everyone stays involved throughout the building process. The Cheerleader is also there to provide a sense of balance between task and purpose during the weekend.

Project Mexico Team Vision

In 1999 a group of people from The Crossing (a church in Costa Mesa, Ca) invited a small group of us from Canyon Hills Church to join them in building homes in Mexico. Over the next couple of years, they showed us the ropes, then sent us off to run trips on our own. Today, we're continuing that vision by including teams and groups of all kinds in the Project Mexico Ministry. Some have grown and now run trips of their own. Our vision is to include groups of people who like to partner with us in demonstrating God's love in practical ways in Mexico, with the goal that one day they'll go it alone, and coach other groups to the same.
