More About This Website

Project Mexico is a collective of volunteers who seek to bridge the chasm between cultures, and help those in need south of the border. Launched in 1999, we've lost count how many homes we've built in the border communities of Baja California. Project Mexico is more than just homes though. Find out what our hope is for the future here

We stay at Rancho Solo, located in Tijuana, and about 20 minutes from Colonia de San Bernardo (where we build the homes). Rancho Solo is located next door to the home of (and owned by) Sergio Gomez, a jolly fellow who's gracious and accommodating, helps run a local orphanage and plays a mean accordian.

The accommodations at Rancho Solo are, uh, rustic. It's clean (enough), has separate guys and ladies bunks rooms with 2-3 717364-447671-thumbnail.jpgtiered bunks and plastic-covered mattresses. It ain't the Hilton, but then this is true Mexico, and we wouldn't have it any other way. Might want to bring a pair of ear plugs though, as some of our volunteers have been known to snore at teeth-chattering levels. A good pair of earplugs and a hard days' work, and you'll likely sleep like a baby.

You'll bring your own sleeping bag and pillow. During the Fall trip, it's often a good idea to have an extra blanket, especially if your sleeping bag is a summer one.

Rancho Solo has separate men's and women's bathrooms and showers (and usually hot water). There are kitchen and food-prep areas that our food team aptly utilizes, and indoor/outdoor eating areas.

717364-447672-thumbnail.jpgParking is tight, but the guys at Rancho Solo manage it well. Ever been to the Greek theater and experienced stacked parking? It's kinda like that. Only here, there's two guys that stay up all night on a careful watch over all the vehicles, so everything stays safe. Some folks elect to sleep in the vans or SUV's, and that's cool.

BBQ on Friday night at Rancho Solo, complete with views of TJ.
We'll eat well while at Rancho Solo. The food team does a knockout job of preparing great breakfasts and dinners for us. On Friday night, your team will coordinate it's own dinner. Some head into town, while others BBQ at Rancho Solo. On Saturday and Sunday morning, you'll eat a great breakfast prepared by the food team. Then Saturday night, you'll be in for an awsome dinner.
